EEOC Sues Hardware Store for Sexual Harassment
On May 20, 2020, the EEOC reports that it filed a lawsuit against hardware store chain Menard, Inc., for sexual harassment. The EEOC reports that an assistant manager at a Menard store in Michigan sexually harassed female employees by sending pornagraphic images to at least three female Menard employees over a span of approximately one and half years. The female employees reported the sexual harassment to upper management, but upper management did nothing, and the sexual harassment continued. It was not until approximately a year and a half after the first complaint was made that upper management investigated the harasser and terminated him.
This case demonstrates two things: (1) it is important to keep in mind that sexual harassment can include sexual text messages, pornography, and other digital forms of sexual harassment done by co-workers or managers; and (2) even if a sexual harasser is ultimately terminated, the victims may still be owed compensation.
